Chip Roe, CFP®, CRPC®, CRPS®
President
Chip Roe is an independent financial advisor and Managing Principal at The Potter Financial Group. He has over 25 years of experience in financial planning and wealth management. Chip provides objective advice that is tailored to meet each client’s specific and individual situation and that is designed to help them reach their stated financial goals.
He brings a depth of knowledge and perception of financial issues to his clients that helps them define their financial goals. Chip also offers his own perspective on how real life can change and even derail our best laid plans. He understands that financial charts and graphs don’t take into consideration all of the sudden shifts that happen in peoples’ lives – death, divorce, raising children, taking care of parents, etc. As a divorced parent, who is now remarried with a blended family, he understands that life unfolds and changes and our plans, even our financial ones, must change too. Chip sees his role as a partner to his clients, from just starting out to living in retirement. Today’s retirement is very different and he guides clients through all aspects of living a successful retirement.
He believes that “life is a great teacher” and his experience as the primary care-giver for his mother at the end of her life, has made him a champion of “the sandwich generation”; those who are still caring for children and taking care of aging parents. His financial practice reflects this important component of modern financial planning.
As an independent advisor, Chip offers objective advice and a wide array of tools, resources and investment strategies to meet each individual client’s requirements. He is not obligated to any proprietary products. When acting as a fiduciary, he is duty-bound to put the needs of his clients ahead of the firm.
Chip was born and raised in Durham and is a proud member of the Durham community. He raised his daughters here and is now remarried and delighted with his new blended family. He is past president of the Exchange Club of Greater Durham and a past board member for the Exchange Family Center whose national missions are the prevention of child abuse and neglect. When not working with clients or volunteering, he and his wife, Bobbi, enjoy hiking, biking and travel.
In addition to the CFP®, Chip also holds the designations of Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) and Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS®) from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Western Carolina University.
He is member of the Financial Planning Association and past president of the Durham/Orange Estate Planning Council. Chip holds a General Securities license (Series 7) and is an Investment Advisor representative through Commonwealth Financial Network®
